Diversity, Equity & Inclusion for All with Nicole Flynn Not Registered

An intersectional look at the experiences of people labelled with intellectual or developmental disabilities.  
 
Nicole Flynn, author of A Life Worth Living, is an entrepreneur, photographer, and world medalist. She is also an advocate for the acceptance of all people, regardless of their intersections. Flynn firmly believes in the inclusion and belonging of all people in all the ideological aspects of society. Join us for this inspirational Accessibility Week event!  
 
Nicole will have copies of her book available for purchase.

Living and Aging Well: Active Aging - Unleashing the Power of Exercise for Seniors Registration Required

We're partnering with Age-friendly Peterborough in this series for older adults, focusing on learning ways to stay safe, connected, and active in our community. Each month's session will feature a presentation, discussion, and time for socializing over a small luncheon.

Active aging - Unleashing the Power of Exercise for Seniors 
 
This engaging presentation delves into the nuances of exercise for seniors, dispelling common misconceptions and emphasizing the transformative impact of purposeful movement. From exploring the distinction between daily activity and intentional exercise to unveiling the remarkable connection between physical activity and mental well-being, this presentation goes beyond the basics. Guiding seniors through exercise recommendations tailored to their needs, the presentation provides clarity on what to do, how much, and how often. "Active Aging" is more than a presentation; it's a roadmap to unleashing the untapped power within every senior, fostering vitality and well-being for the golden years ahead.

Teen Library Ambassadors will gain experience relevant to work and education, develop leadership and teamwork skills, earn volunteer hours, and have lots of fun along the way! 

We're looking for teens interested in planning, promoting, and participating in monthly programs. This commitment will include monthly meeting attendance and activities outside of our monthly meetings.  

Thank you to the City of Peterborough’s Youth Council, who provide our Teen Library Ambassadors with bus passes to make their volunteer duties easier. 

NOTE:  August 14th Meeting to be held in Library Boardroom

We’re exploring local parks and trails this summer, discovering landmarks and identifying native plant species along the way with tech tools such as iNaturalist and Google Lens. Meet us at the start location with some comfy walking shoes, a water bottle and your smartphone (optional).  
 
Please dress for the weather, we only cancel if there’s severe weather.

PA Day - Celebrate Indigenous Heritage Day Not Registered

Celebrate and honour National Indigenous History Month at the Library. We will showcase and read some of the wonderful books from the Downie & Wenjack Legacy Space collection, watch a couple short films from the National Film Board by Indigenous filmmakers from across Canada and have Indigenous colouring and activity sheets available.

Crafternoons - Beaded Strawberry Moon Key Tags Registration Required

June: Beaded Strawberry Moon Key Tags 
Ojibway artist Malinda Gray will join us once again for beading, this time making small strawberry key tags to celebrate Ode-imini-giizis (the strawberry moon).  Malinda Gray, an avid beader for decades, is an Ojibway kwe from the Lac Seul Band, who loves sharing her knowledge. She is an Indigenous Studies PhD Candidate at Trent University living in Peterborough, ON with her family. 
  
July: Tin Can Lanterns 
Add a little ambience to your porch, patio or back stoop with your own home-made tin can lantern. Join us for this throw-back program from 2019! 
 
August: Crepe Paper Roses 
Fill your vases with flowers that never wilt or die. Learn to create and arrange crepe paper roses with artist Sheila Wright.
